BEGINNERS
(RYA LEVEL 1 AND 2 )
Dinghy Level 1
This will introduce you to the sport and
will cover safety issues and getting afloat
Dinghy Level 2
This is the follow on course to the Level
1 course and on completion it will enable you to sail a boat safely and
with confidence in light to moderate winds. The syllabus includes launching
and recovery, rigging, capsize drill, person overboard, rules of the road
and plenty of sailing
Level 1 and Level 2 are usually combined
to make a five day course over five consecutive Saturdays.
At the end of the course the successful
sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and
be capable of sailing without an instructor in light winds
The school uses Topper
Sport 14s for its dinghy training and these stable roomy boats have
proved to very popular with newcomers to sailing. Students may choose after
a few weeks to sail single handed in Laser
Picos.
The syllabus will include helming
(steering) and crewing a dinghy on all points of sailing, rigging, launching
and recovery, approaching jetties up and down wind, recovering a person
from the water and capsizing.

This is a new idea,
intended to help people who may have just completed a beginners course
or may be coming back to the sport after some time get more
experience 'on the water' with the confidence of advice
and support close at hand.
The Training Centre will provide access
to the club's dinghies at Piddinghoe Lake on a pre-booked basis under the
supervision and with the support of a qualified instructor.
This is for those that have a Level 2
certificate and would like to have some practice in a club boat
Sessions will predominantly use single
handed boats such as Pico, Laser 1 or Topper.,
however if available, the larger Topper Sport 14s
can be booked by crews of two or more who are already experienced
with rigging and sailing this type of boat.
